Working With Offenders
Each year we supervise more than 7000 offenders in the South Wales Probation Area.
Around 70% of offenders under supervision are serving Community Orders with the other 30% being people on licence from prison.
Community Orders are tough punishments, designed to rehabilitate as well as punish.
A Community Order can include anything from Unpaid Work to a Curfew or compulsory attendance at programmes designed to change offending behaviour. Whatever the content of the supervision the aim is clear - to reduce re-offending and protect the public.
In addition to the compulsory elements ofefnders are also given opportunities to develop new skills and improve their basic skills, such as reading and writing. These are proven ways to help to reduce the risk of further offending.
